First Conditional – Oefeningen

Deze oefeningen richten zich op de First Conditional

Wat is de First Conditional?

De First Conditional wordt gebruikt voor:

• Mogelijke toekomstige gebeurtenissen → "If it rains, we will stay inside."

• Waarschijnlijke gevolgen → "If you study, you will pass the exam."

• Waarschuwingen en beloftes → "If you touch that, you will get burned!"

Structuur van de First Conditional

If + present simple, will + basisvorm van het werkwoord

Examples:

• If you eat too much, you will feel sick.

• If she calls me, I will answer.

• If they win the game, they will be champions.

Tip: De "if"-zin beschrijft de voorwaarde (present simple) en de hoofdzin toont het resultaat (will + basisvorm).

Variaties van de First Conditional

1. Gebruik van "can", "may" of "might" in plaats van "will"

• If you study, you can pass the exam. (Ability)

• If you hurry, you might catch the train. (Possibility)

• If it’s sunny, we may go to the beach. (Possibility)

2. Gebruik van de gebiedende wijs

• If you see Tom, tell him to call me.

• If you finish early, come and help me.

3. Gebruik van "unless" (= if not)

• Unless you study, you will fail. (= If you don’t study, you will fail.)

• Unless it rains, we will have a picnic. (= If it doesn’t rain, we will have a picnic.)

First Conditional vs. Zero Conditional

Tip: Als het resultaat altijd waar is, gebruik dan de Zero Conditional. Als het mogelijk maar niet zeker is, gebruik dan de First Conditional.

Regel: Gebruik NOOIT "will" na "if"! De if-zin staat altijd in de present simple.
