Sell vs Sale

“Sale” is a noun. “Sell” is a verb. An example of using both being “This item is on sale! I am selling it for 10 dollars!” So the sell price of the sale is 10 dollars.
Fewer vs Less
More
"Less" is used with uncountable nouns such as "salt," "sand," "water," etc. Things that you would measure with a measuring cup, or quantify by weight, rather than using a number. "Fewer" is used with things that you would count-- "people," "pets," "pens," "pots." In other words, "less" means "a smaller quantity of," while "fewer" means "a smaller number of."
Aluminum vs Aluminium
More
Aluminum became the more popular name in American English, and aluminium became the more popular name in British English. These preferences are still common today, but most chemistry organizations recognize both terms as acceptable.
Theory vs Hypothesis

A hypothesis is an untested (but testable) proposal. A theory is a proposal that has been tested.

Former and Latter
More
Latter and former are antonyms. If you say you like two things, x and y, then you can say 'the latter is better than the former" meaning y is better than x. Former means the first thing, latter means the second thing.
