Come si usa “Used to” in inglese

Usiamo “used to” in inglese per parlare di abitudini, routine o situazioni che accadevano regolarmente nel passato ma che ora non accadono più. È utile quando vogliamo descrivere cose che facevamo spesso in passato ma che abbiamo smesso di fare.

“Used to” per abitudini e stati nel passato

Usiamo “used to” per parlare di cose che succedevano regolarmente nel passato ma che ora non succedono più.

Struttura: Soggetto + used to + forma base del verbo

Examples:

  • I used to play football every weekend. (I played in the past, but not now.)

  • She used to live in New York. (She lived there before, but not anymore.)

  • They used to eat a lot of fast food. (Now they don’t.)

Suggerimento: “Used to” si usa solo per il passato — per il presente, usa “usually.”

“Be used to” per familiarità

Usiamo “be used to” per parlare di cose a cui siamo abituati.

Struttura: Soggetto + be (am/is/are/was/were) + used to + sostantivo/gerundio (-ing)

  • She is used to waking up early. (She doesn’t find it difficult.)

“Get used to” per nuove abitudini

Usiamo “get used to” quando stiamo diventando a nostro agio con qualcosa di nuovo.

Struttura: Soggetto + get used to + sostantivo/gerundio (-ing)
