Definitions or Translations - new content feature on PushtoLearn
Many people think that translation is an ineffective approach for learning a foreign language. It takes too much time. When you translate, you are spending your time in both languages, trying to go from one to the other and not immersing yourself in the language you are learning. If you spend your time trying to figure out how to go from English to another language, then you are losing half of your language practice time to your mother tongue. Learning a language is learning a skill, and learning a skill requires practice – way more practice than most people realize, actually – so cutting that time in half by constantly thinking in your first language is inefficient.
On the other hand, when it comes to beginner or elementary levels it is much easier for learners to start from their first language and then figure out how to say basic words and phrases in the language they are learning.
This brought the necessity to incorporate both approaches within the platform for language schools developed by PushtoLearn. That’s why we designed and implemented the option to set different modes for vocabulary units on the platform, when training activities with Word-Translation and Translation-World can be changed into Word-Definition and Definition-Word with new design and layout for all items.
Our customers are happy to have options to adjust the content and strategies for vocabulary practice without the need to follow one specific methodology.
